The Irvine Valley men's golf team finished 12th of 20 teams at the Citrus College Invitational on Monday at the Glendora Country Club.
The Lasers ended with a team score of 402. The top five scores out of six players was used to make up the team score.
Santa Barbara won the title with a score of 382. College of the Desert was second at 383 and Saddleback was third at 384.
Irvine Valley was just one stroke behind Santa Ana for 11th place. The Lasers finished in front of Long Beach City, Citrus, Orange Coast, Mt. San Antonio, Riverside, Victor Valley, Allan Hancock and Victor Valley.
Leading Irvine Valley was Dane Thomas with a score of 76. Mark Toscano shot 77, Luke Bonzer came in at 82, Troy Davis shot 83 and Dominik Pietschmann was at 84. Thomas Destaing's score of 86 was thrown out.
"We did about as I expected, beating about 8 or 9 of the teams," Irvine Valley Coach Ben Burnett said.
Irvine Valley was coming off a 375 to 396 loss to Cypress in an Orange Empire Conference match last week at Navy Golf Course in Cypress. The Lasers' record slipped to 0-4 in conference play. Cypress had all five its scorers shot in the 70's.
Irvine Valley was led by Pietschmann with a 78 and Thomas and Davis, who each shot 79.
Overall in conference play, IVC is led by Toscano, who is averaging an 18-hole score of 76.0. Toscano ranks 25th in the conference. Next is Troy Davis with an avarge of 77.0, which is good for 31st in the conference standings.
The Lasers play again on Monday, facing Riverside at Indian Hills Golf Course.
