Men's golf team finishes ninth at regional tournament

The Irvine Valley men's golf team finished ninth of 10 teams at the SCGA-Southern California Community College Regional Championship Monday in Santa Maria.
Long Beach City won the title after beating Santa Barbara in a playoff, 24-26. Each team had finished the day with scores of 736.
College of the Canyons was third at 738, Bakersfield finished fourth at 743 and Saddleback was fifth at 750.
Santiago Canyon was sixth with a score of 764, College of the Desert came in seventh at 768 and Palomar finished eighth at 770.
Irvine Valley was next at 778 and Mt. San Antonio rounded out the top 10 with a score of 791.
The top four teams advanced to the state championship at the SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta next week.
Riley Marshall of College of the Canyons in Valencia won the regional championship individual title.
Marshall had rounds of 72-69 --141 to edge Kyle Nicholson of Santa Barbara by one shot for the title.
Irvine Valley was led by Travis Reeves score of 74-74 -- 148. Reeves was just one shot away from advancing to the state championship.
Five players shot 147 and Saddleback's Kris Assawpimonporn birdied the first hole of a playoff to earn the last individual spot to the state event.
The top six players not on qualifying teams advanced.
Reeves tied with five other players at 148.
Next for Irvine Valley was Jimmy Willingham (74-77 --151), Cory Cannon (77-77 -- 154), Karolis Raudys (80-84 --164) and Bret Becker (83-81 --164). Barney Suguitan had Irvine Valley's throw out score of 80-86 --166.
Irvine Valley ended the regular season by finishing fourth in the Orange Empire Conference.
