The Irvine Valley men’s golf team played well at El Prado Golf Course in Chino on Monday.
But host Santiago Canyon was even better, finishing with a score of 369
to Irvine Valley's 379 to take the Orange Empire Conference contest.
The loss dropped Irvine Valley's record to 2-3 in conference.
“We had practiced several times at El Prado Golf Course,” Irvine Valley
Coach Ben Burnett said. “We anticipated that we would need to shoot a
team score of 368 to 370 to defeat Santiago Canyon at their home
course. I congratualte Santiago Canyon for their fine team effort."
Irvine Valley still had all six of its players shoot in the 70's
The Lasers were paced by Jimmy Willingham's score of 73. Cory Cannon
shot 75 and Brad Chamberlin, Karolis Raudys and Travis Reeves each shot
77 for the lasers. Bret Becker’s 79 was the Lasers' throw out
score.
Burnett was impressed with his team's scores, but said they could have even been a little better.
“We are competing in the toughest community college golf conference in
California," Burnett said. "In order for the whole team to make it to
the conference finals each member of the team has to make better on
course decisions regarding strategy and course management. We need to
do those things in order to win close matches."
