Coach Ben Burnett is a winner of multiple conference coach of the year awards at Irvine Valley. He has produced competitive golf squads, utilizing a philosophy of recruiting, rather than tryouts for players.

He seeks out a squad of 10 golfers who can establish that they can post scores of 76 or lower each time they play a competitive round. Burnett's program and coaching methods have consistently produced student athletes who have moved on from Irvine Valley to compete at numerous four-year colleges and universities.

And one former IVC standout player, Sean Shahi, recently received his card on the Asian Tour.

In 2011, Burnett helped guide the Laser men's golf team to the Southern California Regionals and freshman standout Kyle Melchiorre reached the state tournament as an individual.
