Coach Ben Burnett is a winner of multiple conference coach of the year awards at Irvine Valley. He has produced competitive golf squads, utilizing a philosophy of recruiting, rather than tryouts for players. He seeks out a squad of 10 golfers who can establish that they can post scores of 76 or lower each time they play a competitive round. Burnett's program and coaching methods have consistently produced student athletes who have moved on from Irvine Valley to compete at numerous four-year colleges and universities.
Consultant David F. Wright, Ph.D., PGA
Dr. Wright is a PGA member teaching professional, a PGA Tour Instructor and Psychologist. His peers elected him as the 1998 PGA Teacher of the Year for the Southern California Section and he was the recipient of the coveted 1999 PGA Southern California Section Horton Smith Trophy. He is also the author of the book, Mind Under Par (888) 620-4653 and he is the founder of the Mind Under Par Golf Schools (888) 966-6463 at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course in Mission Viejo where he teaches full time. He holds two doctorates, both in psychology. Dr. Wright is also a Senior Instruction Editor for Golf Tips Magazine. Additionally, Dr. Wright is an assistant coach to the University of Southern California golf teams and an instructor/consultant to both Irvine Valley golf teams.
Assistant Coach / Alan Ochiai, PGA Teaching Professional
Ochiai helps the Irvine Valley men's and women's team members analyze their swings. His expertise is highly respected and acclaimed by coaches and PGA teaching professionals. Ochiai's clients include top high school and Division I golfers as well as tour professionals. Ochiai, who has taught golf for 21 years, is a Golf Magazine top 100 teacher. He was named the Southern California PGA Section Teacher of the Year in 1999.
