Men's basketball team scores just 39 points in loss to Santa Ana
Jan 21, 2009

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team dropped its sixth straight game and remained winless in Orange Empire Conference play with a 41-39 defeat to Santa Ana Wednesday night at home.

IVC's overall record slipped to 10-14 overall.

The Dons won their first conference game, improving to 11-11 overall and 1-4 in conference.

With the score tied, 39-39, Isiah Emaguna scored on a lay-up to give Santa Ana the lead for good at 41-39.

IVC had one last chance. Sophomore guard Jeff Ledbetter got into the lane, but his floater was blocked by the Dons' Ian Parks and that is the way the game ended.

Parks finished with nine points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and three steals in 34 minutes to lead Santa Ana. D'Andre Denan added nine points and seven rebounds and Tyler Averill finished with six points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Dons.

Parks and Santa Ana did most of their damage inside. They outscored Irvine Valley, 20-6, in the paint.

Santa Ana shot 32.7 percent for the game (16 of 49) and was just 1 of 17 from three-point range (5.9 percent).

But IVC was even worse, making just nine field goals overall. The team shot 18.8 percent (9 of 48).

Irvine Valley was paced by Ledbetter with 10 points, but he made just 2 of 14 shots from the field and was 1 of 8 from three-point range. Freshman guard Blake Touchard added eight points, but he shot just 1 of 9 from the floor. Sophomore center Matt Ballard contributed a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Dons also out-rebounded Irvine Valley, 43-36.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting Cypress at 7:30 p.m.
