Men's basketball team drops third straight in conference

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team needs to turn things around fast if it has any chance at making the playoffs this season.
The Lasers dropped their fourth straight game and third in a row in conference, falling to Riverside, 67-53, Wednesday night at Wheelock Gym in Riverside.
Irvine Valley's record slipped to 10-12 overall. The team's loss to Orange Coast last week dropped IVC under .500 for the first time since mid November.
Riverside got 13 points from Robbie Robinson and 12 apiece from Jeffeth
Maxim and David Norris to roll to the victory.
Riverside
dominated from the outset, holding Irvine Valley to 24 percent shooting
in the first half. The Lasers spent the first seven minutes
without a point, allowing the Tigers (2-1, 18-5) to build a 11-0 lead
and eventually a 30-11 lead with 1:46 remaining in the first half.
The two teams
spent most of the second half exchanging baskets. Although, Riverside
managed to build its biggest lead of the game at 54-37 with 8:20
remaining.
Irvine Valley shot just 38.0 percent for the game (19 of 50). IVC was 2 of 12 from three-point range. The Lasers also had just five assists.
IVC was led by sophomore forward Jon Reed, who had 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting. Freshman guard Blake Touchard added 11 points, sophomore guard Jeff Ledbetter had 10 points and freshman forward Kwame Alexander contributed nine points and 12 rebounds.
Irvine Valley plays at Saddleback on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
