Baseball team beats LA Harbor

The Irvine Valley baseball team picked up its seventh win in its last eight games with a 5-1 non-conference victory over Los Angeles Harbor Tuesday afternoon at home.
The Lasers improved their record to 8-5 on the season.
IVC got another standout performance on the mound from No. 1 starter Danny Heben.
The sophomore right-hander pitched 7.0 innings and gave up just one run on three hits, no walks and three hit batters. Heben had four strikeouts. The win moved his record to 3-1 on the season.
Sophomore Dean Persinger came in and earned up the save, throwing 2.0 innings and allowing just one hit. He struck out four.
Persinger entered in the eighth inning with two runners on and no outs, but pitched out the the jam by getting a pop out and two strikeouts.
LA Harbor scored first, getting a run in the top of the fourth inning. Irvine Valley answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by sophomore catcher Alex Agortsas.
The Lasers took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore outfielder Matt Ivanoff knocked in freshman second baseman Sean Williams with a single. And later in the inning Ivanoff scored from third base as part of a double steal with sophomore Brian Ferrante.
Irvine Valley added two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Agortsas hit a one out double and later scored on an error and freshman infieleder Vince Hungerford drove in a run with an RBI single.
Agortsas finished the day going 2 for 4 with one RBI. Ivanoff was 1 for 3 with one RBI and Hungerford was 1 for 4 with one RBI.
Irvine Valley plays its next two games in San Diego, facing Grossmont on Wednesday at 2 p.m. and San Diego Mesa on Thursday at 2 p.m.
