Women's basketball team comes up short against Riverside
Feb 08, 2008

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team fell into sixth-place in the conference standings after a 78-69 loss to Riverside Friday night at home.

Riverside and IVC went into the contest tied for fifth.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 15-11 overall and 4-6 in conference. It was the team's fourth straight loss after winning four straight games.

IVC led, 29-27, at halftime, but was out-scored 51-40 in the second half.

Irvine Valley shot just 25.7 percent for the game (19 of 74), including going 10 for 40 in the second half.

The Lasers also had a hard time trying to contain speedy Riverside point guard Akisha Waldrop, who went for 35 points. Waldrop added eight rebounds and six assists.

Crystal Vazquez added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers.

IVC was led by Jenna Schonfeld, who had 18 points and nine rebounds. But Schonfeld was just 6 of 21 from the field and 2 of 10 from three-point range.

Ashley Dunn added 13 points and a season-high 16 rebounds. But she was only 2 of 16 from the field and 1 of 8 from three-point range.

The Lasers host Santa Ana next Wednesday in what could be a must win game for the team if it hopes to make the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
