Irvine Valley College men’s basketball coach Jerry Hernandez announced that freshman point guard La'Shard Anderson has signed with Boise State University.
The 6-0 Anderson is in his first year of playing at Irvine Valley. He will head to Boise State for the 2008-09 season and will have three years of eligibility left with the Broncos.
Anderson was considered one of the top high school point guards in Southern California last season while playing at Junipero Serra High in San Diego.
"La'Shard is a good get for Boise State," Irvine Valley Coach Jerry Hernandez said. "He can play at that level in the WAC. He is super quick, can handle the ball and makes good decisions. He can also score when needed.
"La'Shard has played well for us so far and we look forward to him helping us to a successful season this year."
Anderson has already helped the Lasers to one of their best ever starts to a season. IVC had a record of 9-0 after winning the American River Tournament this weekend. IVC has been ranked as high as third in the state this year.
He is averaging 8.5 points, 2.6 assists and 2.1 steals so far for the Lasers.
Anderson took Serra to the finals of the CIF playoffs in the San Diego section last season. The Conquistadors lost to Scripps Ranch, 69-57.
The team finished with a record of 23-7 and Anderson averaged 21.0 points, 3.1 assists, 3.1 steals and 2.3 rebounds per game for the season. Anderson led his team in points, assists and steals.
He scored 30 points or more in four games with his high being a 34-point effort against Jordan. He also had 11 steals in that contest.
Anderson was named all-CIF second team and first team all-Eastern League. He was also selected to the CIF all-academic team.
Boise State finished the 2006-07 season with a record of 17-14 overall. The team had a record of 6-2 heading into December this year.
