IVC Classic men's basketball tournament - Second Day Results/Final Day Schedule

Games took place Friday, Nov. 16 at Irvine Valley's Hart Gymnasium

Championship semifinal
Irvine Valley defeated Cerritos, 67-54

Cerritos - Wayne Chapman 13 points, Andre Zeumault 10 points, Van Girard 9 points, 9 rebounds, Aaron Thompson 10 rebounds
Irvine Valley - Bryce Webster 16 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks, La'Shard Anderson 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, Jeff Ledbetter 11 points

Irvine Valley moves into the title game in its own tournament for the first time since the 2001-02 season (lost to Mt. San Jacinto in the final) and will look for its first tournament title since the 1997-98 campaign (defeated Cerritos in the final).

Irvine Valley plays Long Beach City in the championship game on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Friday night's game wasn't quite as close as the final score indicated. The Lasers, who are ranked eighth in the state, jumped out to a double digit lead early in the second half and then cruised from there. IVC went on a 14-2 run over the opening eight minutes of the second half.
A jumper by freshman guard Jeff Ledbetter and then two free throws by Ledbetter gave IVC a 47-28 lead with 11:59 to go in the game.
Irvine Valley's biggest lead was at 56-32 on a lay-up by sophomore center Bryce Webster off an assist from sophomore forward Blake Wallace.
IVC held Cerritos to just 31.1 percent shooting (19 of 61) in the game and helped force 23 Cerritos turnovers.

Championship semifinal
Long Beach City defeated Ventura, 69-66

Long Beach City - Vance Lawrence 18 points, 7 rebounds, Ian Pinckney 12 points, 6 rebounds, Matt Richard 10 points, Shawntell Norman 8 points, 10 rebounds
Ventura - Angelo Whitehead 17 points, 6 rebounds, Brandon Dixon 15 points, 9 rebounds, Kevin Menner 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists

Game was decided on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Long Beach City's Tyler Mitchell. After a Long Beach miss with time running out, Mitchell grabbed the loose ball behind the three-point line and let go a fadeway jumper that fell in.
Ventura hurt itself by making just 13 of 25 free throws (52.0 percent) in the game.

Consolation semifinal
Santa Monica 61, Cuyamaca 55

Santa Monica - Kevian Cross 13 points, 7 rebounds, Noah Gottlieb 12 points, John Brown 8 points, Arthur Braswell 7 rebounds
Cuyamaca - Avery Petty 12 points (4 of 4 shooting from the field), Dahir Nasser 11 points, 5 assists, Nick Taylor 9 points

Santa Monica out-rebounded Cuyamaca, 34-21.

Consolation semifinal
Canyons defeated Imperial Valley, 40-35

Canyons - Gerardo Zuniga 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, Donjay Kakonde 11 points, Behrang 8 points
Imperial Valley - No scorers in double figures - Brandon Dowdy 8 points

Imperial Valley shot just 24.1 percent from the field (14 of 58) in the game. Canyons won despite committing 28 turnovers. halftime score was 15-14 Canyons.


Final Day Sechedule (Nov. 17)

12 p.m. - Canyons vs. Santa Monica (consolation final)
2 p.m. - Ventura vs. Cerritos (third-place game)
4 p.m. - Long Beach City vs. Irvine Valley (championship final)
