Men's basketball team ranked eighth in state
Nov 13, 2007
The Irvine Valley men's basketball team is ranked eighth in the first state poll of the season.
It is the highest ranking ever in program history. The previous best was ninth to finish the 1996-97 campaign. That year IVC won the Orange Empire Conference title.
The San Francisco Rams hold this week's No. 1 spot in the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association Poll after rolling off three wins in the Santa Rosa Tip-off Classic, according to jcscores.com
Their biggest win came in the finals when the Rams pounded Fresno, the state's defending champions, 89-64. San Francisco also had impressive wins over College of the Sequoias, 82-73, and American River, 92-81.
Ironically, San Francisco will defend its No. 1 ranking this week in Fresno when the Rams compete in the Fresno City Tournament.
With the loss to San Franciscio, Fresno came in at No. 10 in the state.
Antelope Valley, which fell to Fresno in last year's state finals, is No. 2, followed by San Joaquin Delta, Los Angeles Trade Tech and Diablo Valley. American River, Ohlone, Irvine Valley and Mt. San Jacinto round out the top 9.
IVC, which has a record of 2-0 on the season, is ranked third in the Southern California poll behind only Antelope Valley and LA Trade Tech.
