The Irvine Valley baseball team ended its season with a disappointing 9-8 loss at Golden West in an Orange Empire Conference mini-tournament game on Friday.
The defeat was Irvine Valley's seventh in its last nine games and third in a row to end the year.
The Lasers will miss out on making the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
Irvine Valley finishes the season with a record of 21-21 overall and 10-14 in conference. The Lasers were fifth in the final conference standings.
IVC looked to be in control after scoring five runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead.
Alonzo Vasquez had an RBI double, Connor Rhoads came through with a two-run single and Robbi Robinson finished off the scoring in the inning with a two-run double.
But the Lasers couldn't hold on. Golden West scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game and added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 8-6 lead.
Irvine Valley battled back to tie the game with two runs in the top of the eighth. Sean Williams homered to lead off and later a groundout by Vince Hungerford scored Corey Thibault, who had been hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.
The teams reamined tied until Golden West scored a run in the bottom of the 10th to win it. With one out, Jose Flores doubled and then Scot Schauer singled up the middle to drive in Flores.
Reliever Andrew Jimenez took the loss for the Lasers. He pitched three innings and gave up two runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Jared Haller started on the mound for the Lasers and went six innings, giving up five runs on 11 hits. He walked three and struck out one.
Anthony Gutierrez was 3 for 5 with a run scored for IVC at the plate. Williams went 2 for 5 with the home run and one RBI.
