Baseball team shut out by Orange Coast

Brett Wallach had the Irvine Valley baseball team's number this season.
The sophomore right-hander beat the Lasers for the third time this year, as Orange Coast grinded out a 4-0 win over Irvine Valley Thursday afternoon in a Orange Empire Conference game at Orange Coast.
Orange Coast won all four games against Irvine Valley this season.
In the three starts, Wallach pitched 23 innings and allowed just one run and 11 hits. He struck out 23 Laser batters.
The loss hampered Irvine Valley's chances for the playoffs. Irvine Valley's record slipped to 21-20 overall and 10-13 in conference. The Lasers remained in fifth place in the conference standings.
With the win, Orange Coast (29-12, 17-6) remained in a tie for first place in the standings with Santa Ana.
On Thursday, Connor Rhoads was 2 for 4 and Anthony Gutierrez, Robbie Robinson, Bobby Gomez and Kory Burkhart also had hits for the Lasers.
But Wallach threw seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts. He improved his record to 7-1. Chris Licon blanked the Lasers for the final two innings to pick up his third save of the year.
IVC sophomore Matt Reyes took the loss. He pitched 7 1/3 innings, giving up all four runs on 10 hits. He had four strikeouts. Reyes' record slipped to 5-5.
Andrew Jimenez pitched the final 2/3 innings. He didn't allow a hit and struck out one.
Wallach helped his own cause at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Pirates, while teammates Beck Wheeler (3 for 4, one RBI), Scott Stidham (1 for 3, one RBI), D.J. Arellano (1 for 3, one RBI) and Rick Stokes (2 for 3, one run) provided enough support for the win.
Irvine Valley plays at Golden West on Friday at 2 p.m. to finish out the regular season.
