Baseball team struggles against Riverside

Irvine Valley's baseball team dropped its second straight Orange Empire Conference game, falling to Riverside, 9-1, Thursday afternoon at home.
Irvine Valley's record slipped to 8-9 overall and 1-3 in conference.
The Lasers struggled on the mound, at the plate and in the field in the contest.
Irvine valley could only muster five hits off Riverside pitchers. Riverside starter Jeff Murray gave up only four hits and an unearned run in 8.0 innings.
Meanwhile, IVC's first three pitchers in the game combined to give up nine hits and nine walks and hit two batters.
IVC starter Matt Reyes was tagged with the loss to drop to 1-2 on the season. He gave up six runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings.
The Lasers made four costly errors in the field behind the pitchers. Only three of Riverside's nine runs ended up being earned.
Riverside was ahead, 6-0, scoring three unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Irvine Valley's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a Riverside error.
For Irvine Valley, sophomore right fielder Paul Sandoval was 2 for 3. Freshman center fielder Thomas Mobley, freshman first baseman Steven Bayko and sophomore second baseman Sean Williams also had hits for the Lasers.
Riverside, which improved to 11-8 overall and 2-2 in conference, was led by Richie Jiminez, who was 3 for 5 with two RBI and Mike Neff, who went 2 for 2 with one RBI.
Irvine Valley plays again on Saturday, hosting Orange Coast at 12 p.m.
