Baseball team rallies to beat Long Beach City

The Irvine Valley baseball team showed some resiliency Wednesday afternoon with a come from behind 4-2 non-conference win at Long Beach City.
The team improved its record to 4-3 on the season.
It was the Lasers’ second win over the Vikings this season.
IVC scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at 2-2 and then scored two in the 10th for the win.
Sophomore left fielder Paul Sandoval knocked in the tying run in the eighth with a single. And in the 10th inning, sophomore catcher Corey Thibault singled through the left side off LBCC reliever Scott Watson to drive in two runs and give Irvine Valley a 4-2 lead.
Sophomore shortstop Vince Hungerford was the lone Laser with more than one hit. He went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Sophomore right-hander Matt Reyes started on the mound and threw six solid innings. He gave up one run on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Freshman Zak Nuno pitched a scoreless ninth for the win and Gary Gerhardt threw a scoreless 10th inning to close things out for Irvine Valley and get the save.
Irvine Valley hosts Cerritos, which is 4-1 this season, on Thursday at 2 p.m.
On the season so far for Irvine Valley, Jon Saldana leads the way batting .471 with eight runs scored. Sandoval is hitting .412 with six RBI, Thomas Mobley is batting .381 with seven runs scored, Connor Rhoads is hitting .357, Sean Williams is batting .333 with six RBI and Corey Thibault is hitting .308 with seven RBI.
On the mound, Daniel Cabuling has a 0.00 ERA in 7.0 innings pitched, Andrew Jimenez has a 2-1 record with a 0.00 ERA in 5.0 innings pitched, Gary Gerhardt has a 0.96 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched and Reyes has a 1-0 record and a 1.50 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts.
