Baseball team ends up in third place in conference

The Irvine Valley baseball team ended the regular season with a 12-6 Orange Empire Conference loss to Orange Coast on Friday afternoon at OCC.
With the win Orange Coast clinched second place outright in the final conference standings. The Pirates finished with a record of 30-13-1 overall and 14-7 in conference.
Irvine Valley finished in third place in the standings. The Lasers ended up 29-15 overall and 13-8 in conference. IVC still ended the regular season with school records for most wins overall and in conference and recorded its highest ever finish in conference.
The lasers looked good early on Friday, scoring five runs in the top of the third inning. IVC led, 6-4, after five innings, but Orange Coast scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.
Orange Coast added two runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead, 11-6, and scored a final run in the bottom of the eighth.
The Pirates out-hit Irvine Valley, 19-10, in the game.
Irvine Valley was led by sophomore catcher Alex Agortsas and sophomore shortstop Abel Medina, who each went 2 for 4 with one RBI.
Sophomore right fielder Brian Ferrante was 1 for 5 with two RBI and freshman third baseman Vince Hungerford went 1 for 3 with one RBI.
IVC starting pitcher Jared Haller went 3 1/3 innings and gave up seven hits and three runs. He walked two and struck out one. Haller wasn't involved in the decision.
Sophomore Danny Heben, normally the team's No. 1 starter, pitched in relief on Friday and went 1 2/3 innings. He gave up one run on four hits with one strikeout.
IVC freshman reliever Daniel Cabuling took the loss. Cabuling didn't retire a batter in the sixth inning, but gave up four runs on two hits and two walks.
The Lasers now wait for playoff seedings to be announced this weekend. Irvine Valley is hoping to get a top eight seed and host a first round regional.
