The Irvine Valley College women’s badminton team won its third straight Southern California regional title this past week.
The Lasers beat Pasadena City College, 21-0, at Irvine Valley on Wednesday.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 14-0 on the year.
Irvine Valley will now go after its third straight state title. The championships will be held this Friday in Pasadena.
Against Pasadena last week, Irvine Valley swept through the 12 singles and five doubles matches. All were won in straight sets.
Irvine Valley’s No. 1 singles player, Rulan Yeh, won her matches 11-0, 11-0, and, 11-2, 11-0.
At No. 2 singles, Rulien Yeh won, 11-0, 11-0, and, 11-1, 11-3.
Brita Kjelstrom, Jenna Chu, Ruby Hi and Hanna Chao also took two matches each in singles for the Lasers.
In doubles, the team of Rulan Yeh and Rulien Yeh won, 15-1, 15-0, and, 15-0, 15-2.
Kjalstrom and Chiu won two matches at No. 2 doubles and the No. 3 team of Annie Wong and Christene Ly won the lone set it played.
