The Irvine Valley College women’s badminton team remained unbeaten with two more easy wins last week.
The Lasers started the week with a 21-0 Orange Empire Conference win over Santa Ana at Santa Ana. It was the seventh time this season that the Lasers had shut out an opponent this season. Irvine Valley, which is the defending state champion, improved its record to 10-0 overall.
Freshmen Rulan Yeh, Rulien Yeh and Jennifer Chiu and sophomores Suzanne Wong, Midori Tanaka and Kitty Yee-Wong each swept singles matches for Irvine Valley. The Yeh sisters, Wong and Chiu and Tanaka and Yee-Wong each teamed to win doubles matches. The match only took an hour to be played.
The Lasers were tested a little more against El Camino on Friday at home. It was actually Irvine Valley’s toughest match of the season. But the Lasers still came out on top, 19-2.
Rulan Yeh and Rulien Yeh each dropped their first singles contests of the season, falling to El Camino’s Minako Akiyama.
But the Lasers didn’t drop another contest. Rulan Yeh and Rulien Yeh bounced back to blank their next opponents. And freshman Brita Kjalstrom, Chiu, sophomore Grace Leung and Yee-Wong each won their singles matches.
The Yeh sisters, Wong and Chiu and Leung and Yee-Wong all won doubles matches.
