Badminton team shuts out San Diego City

The Irvine Valley women's badminton team dominated the defending state champion for the second time this season.
The Lasers defeated San Diego City, 21-0, on Wednesday afternoon at home in an Orange Empire Conference contest. IVC beat San Diego City, 18-3, the first time around.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 6-0 in conference.
The Lasers won all 17 matches. Nine of them came by default. San Diego City only competed with three players.
Sophomore Eva Lee won her two singles contests easy, 21-2, 21-2, and 21-5, 21-4.
Freshman Vimla Phongasavithas won her two matches at No. 2 singles, 21-9, 21-8, and 21-10, 21-4.
Sophomore Shannon Hsu at No. 3 singles and freshman Anoma Phongasavithas at No. 4 singles each won a match and received a default win in a match.
Freshmen Ludie Duco and Stephanie Le both received two default wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Vimla Phongasavithas and Hsu teamed at No. 1 doubles to win their first match, 21-2, 21-3.
Anoma Phongasavithas and Duco won, 21-17, 21-12, in their first match at No. 2 doubles.
IVC received default victories in the other three doubles contests.
Irvine Valley will play again on Friday in the third Orange Empire Conference Tournament of the season. It will be at San Diego Mesa at 10 a.m.
