APE 1 - Adapted Personal Fitness (12:30 - 1:20pm; summer times are longer) M, W, F
Day classes are offered 3 days a week under the instruction of Ted Weatherford, 2005 Physical Educator of the Year (SCOPE). Ted has been a fulltime faculty member at IVC for over 17 years and has taught adaptive physical education, dancing, and was coach of the IVC softball team. Students are instructed in the safe use of all exercise equipment and get assistance in the development of their exercise routine. Many group workouts are offered in the daytime class.
APE 1 - Adapted Personal Fitness, (5:00 - 7:30pm) M & W
Evening instruction for the working student is provided by practicing physical therapist, Mike Bennett, along with help from numerous student assistants and volunteers. Like the day class, participants work with the instructor to develop a personal exercise routine that addresses their fitness goals. Objective measures of strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness are taken at the beginning and end of the semester. Student aides and volunteers are available to assist class participants with their workout regimen.
PE 100 - Introduction to Therapy and Rehabilitation (4:00 - 5:00pm with 3 hours of lab/week to be arranged with the instructor) T & Th

Students complete lab hours by assisting students enrolled in APE 1 with their exercise routines utilizing specialized adaptive equipment or doing internship in their professional area of interest. The Annual Mikel Bistany Wheelchair Tennis Tournament is held during the 4th of July weekend. Players from across California and some neighboring states participate in this USTA sanctioned event. Mikel Bistany started this tournament 15 years ago. After his sudden death, the tournament was named in his memory. Approximately 50 players participate each year and it is sponsored by the IVC Student Body with help from the National Charity League and a devoted volunteer staff. Athletes interested in participating should contact Ron Hastings.
