Transportation to this event is not being provided by the Honors Program or the Transfer Center.  However, the Honors Program Enrichment Events Team Coordinator, Danmei Yang, will help to coordinate carpooling for students who want to attend.  If you want to carpool with other IVC Honors students, please send an email dyang19@ivc.edu with subject heading UCLA.  Specify whether you need a ride or can drive, and if you can drive, indicate how many people you can take and where you want to pick up riders (e.g., the IVC campus), and include your phone number.  Note:  There is a $12 parking fee.  Riders will need to share gas and parking costs.  This will be a fun event and more fun if you go with your IVC HP peers!

Honors Enrichment Certificate

Beginning in 2013-14, The Honors Program will offer an Honors Enrichment Certificate to eligible students who attend a specified number of social, cultural, and service events endorsed by the Honors Program.  The certificate is intended as an incentive to encourage Honors Program students to make the most of their education while at IVC and also to promote the interaction and a sense of community among Honors Program members. Only events officially endorsed by the Honors Program qualify towards credits.  Honors Enrichment Certificates will be presented at the Honors Program year-end ceremony.  Enrichment Certificate completion may be a factor in choosing recipients of Honors Program Scholarships.

The following events are automatically eligible for one event credit:

·      IVC2IVC Lectures—monthly lectures by IVC faculty
·      Lectures in the Distinguished Academic Lecture Series (DALS)—generally two per semester
·      All IVC Concerts and Plays—these will not necessarily be announced by the Honors Program (there are too many of them!), but you can find a listing here: http://www.ivcarts.org/

Students may also propose upcoming events for consideration using the Enrichment Event Proposal Form.

Note: It is not mandatory to attend Honors Enrichments events. Completion of the certificate requirements is completely voluntary and will not affect your standing in the program or your eligibility for transfer agreements. Students who are on a probationary standing in the Honors Program due to GPA or progress considerations may still participate in events and submit forms to the office. However, only students who are in good standing at the end of the year will be eligible to receive the certificate.  If you have questions about your standing in the program, please email honorsprogram@ivc.edu.

Honors Program Leadership Positions

The IVC Honors Program is reorganizing and expanding its student leadership positions in 2013-14.  To participate in leadership, students must be members of the Honors Program in good standing (a 3.25 in honors classes and overall and making sufficient progress towards program completion).

HONORS PROGRAM PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENT

Honors Program students (including Fall 2012 or Spring 2013 graduates) will be required to submit a Student Learning Assessment Portfolio of honors coursework after they have completed their five honors classes in order to graduate from the program and receive the Honors Program transcript annotation.   Click here for the portfolio document, which explains the portfolio's purpose and has the template that you will use to create the portfolio.  The portfolio may be submitted in either hard copy or electronic form.  Dr. Ryals will be holding several workshops about the Honors Portfolio this semester.  In preparation for compiling the portfolio, please keep hard and/or electronic copies of all of the graded papers, exams, and projects from your honors classes—with instructor comments—to use in your portfolio.
