Dance Perspectives FALL 08- SPRING 09: How Does a Dance Mean?
Fee for the event: $10 per student includes lunch.
Dates: Vary per semester, contact: mdelapalme@ivc.edu, 949/451-5533
Inspired by the title of John Ciardi’s book How Does a Poem Mean?, this one-hour lecture/presentation in the new Irvine Valley College Performing Arts Center explores how choreographers communicate emotion, meaning and sometimes message.
Artistic director Marie de la Palme is passionate about helping audiences understand the work that goes into creating a dance. Before each dance, she outlines the artistic intent of the piece. Afterwards she analyzes HOW the work has communicated its message through specific artistic and choreographic choices.
If you would like to prepare your students for the performance, we can provide you with material ahead of time to allow you to do experimental activities with your students based on the theme of our dances.
FULL-DAY OPTION: 9:00am-1:30pm OR Noon-4:30pm
If you can take your students out for the day, we offer several activities to further their understanding of dance AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE!
