Alternative Evidence

Students who have completed an assessment at another Orange County community college and have the recommended course placements* or have completed college writing or mathematics courses at another college may not have to complete an entire assessment session at Irvine Valley College.

*Only English placements from other Orange County Community Colleges are accepted. If you plan to enroll in a mathematics course at IVC, you must complete our math assessment. No exceptions.

Transcripts or placement recommendations from other colleges must be presented to the Assessment Center (Student Services Center, Room 250) as soon as possible before registration so that eligibility can be verified and students can be cleared for registration. Otherwise, students will be blocked from enrolling.

Please see the IVC Catalog or Class Schedules for course descriptions and prerequisites

Students can earn 1.5 units toward their AA/AS or 60 transferable units while working with a counselor to create their personal, academic plan. Students will also have the opportunity to explore their short and long term goals, learn study and time management skills as well as explore the relationship between majors and careers.

If students believe that they have cause to challenge their participation in Matriculation, they may file a challenge based on any one of the following grounds. Request to Challenge forms are available in the Assessment Center.

Students who file a Request to Challenge on the basis of Ground B,C,D, E or F during their assigned registration time will be awarded eligibility to enroll in the class pending the outcome of the challenge. If the challenge is upheld, students who have enrolled in the class will be allowed to remain in the class. If the challenge is denied, students will be notified that they have been removed from the class.
