2013scholarshipwinner-glenn.jpgIrvine Valley College (IVC) President Glenn R. Roquemore announced Friday May 17 the 2013 recipients of the IVC President’s Scholarship. This year a $1,000 scholarship was awarded to each of two very qualified students - one from the Irvine Unified School District and one from the Tustin Unified School District.

Karina Pauletti was the Irvine Unified School District recipient, from Woodbridge High School. Karina is among the top students in her senior class. With a GPA of 4.1, she is admired and respected by her peers for her warm personality as well as her commitment to athletics through water polo and swimming.

Sharon Chen was the Tustin Unified School District recipient, from Beckman High School. Sharon arrived in the United States just four years ago from Taiwan. She quickly worked her way into mainstream English classes, and she currently has a 3.9 GPA. She is admired as a solid, hardworking student that understands what her contribution to society can mean, and hopes to pursue a degree in the medical field.

"We are very excited to have these two students of such outstanding talent and character coming to study at Irvine Valley College. They embody exactly what our student body represents," said Roquemore, who presented these students with their awards at the college’s 28th annual scholarship awards ceremony, held Friday, May 17 in the IVC Performing Arts Center.

This year, IVC scholarship funds will provide individual awards to approximately 220 students—all made possible through contributions by Irvine Valley’s benefactors: local businesses, corporations and service organizations, as well as IVC faculty, students and staff. IVC students will receive more than $169,500. In total, more than $260,000 will be awarded during this academic year.
