The first day of Irvine Valley Classic is complete.
Irvine Valley lost to Long Beach City, 68-63, on Thursday to fall into the consolation bracket.
Freshman guard Shaquille Hunter had a big night for the Lasers, scoring 24 points, including making 6 of 9 three-pointers. But IVC didn't get a lot of other offense.
Sophomore Michael Bolden finished with 11 points and freshman guard Dathon Spencer had 10 points off the bench. Sophomore forward Zach Mills chipped in six points and 15 rebounds.
Long Beach City had four players in double figures, including Ashton Edwards, who went for 23 points. Tyler Tuilau added 17 points and nine rebounds for the Vikings, who led, 33-30, at halftime.
Long Beach City played well down the stretch and made its free throws when it counted. The Vikings went 19 of 24 from the line for the game and 9 of 10 in the second half.
Long Beach City also outrebounded Irvine Valley, 40-31.
Irvine Valley, which saw its record slip to 1-1, on the season, will play Santa Monica in a tournament consolation bracket game on Friday at 3 p.m.
