Men's soccer team suffers another close loss

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team lost another tough one on Friday.

The Lasers fell at Orange Coast, 1-0, on a goal scored by the Pirates in the 87th minute.

It was Irvine Valley's second-straight one-loss match this week.

The defeat dropped Irvine Valley's record to 6-9-2 overall and 3-7-0 in conference.

Chase Nugent scored the game-winner for the Pirates. He took a pass from Brandon Bauman, beat a defender and then fired a shot into the upper-right portion of the net.

Orange Coast improved its record to 10-3-3 overall and 6-2-2 in conference.

Orange Coast out-shot Irvine Valley, 11-6, in the contest.

IVC freshman goalie Wilbur Olivera made four saves in goal, including a leaping, finger-tip save in the 83rd off the foot of Bauman to keep the game scoreless.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday. The Lasers are on the road at Santiago Canyon for a 3 p.m. conference contest.
