Women's volleyball team unbeaten, but drops in rankings

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team won its only match last week and stayed unbeaten on the season, but dropped in this week's CCCWVCA Top 25 State Poll.

The Lasers, who were No. 5 last week are now ranked seventh.

Teams ahead of Irvine Valley are defending state champion LA Pierce at No. 1, Orange Coast at No. 2, Bakersfield at No. 3, Fresno City at No. 4, Feather River at No. 5 and Sierra at No. 6.

And after Irvine Valley at No. 7 is American River at No. 8, Santa Rosa at No. 9 and Grossmont at 10th to round out the top 10 teams.

Moving past Irvine Valley in this week's poll were Orange Coast, which jumped from seventh to second after sweeping Pasadena City and Bakersfield, which as the runner-up at the San Diego Mesa and LA Pierce Tournaments.

Five teams from the Orange Empire Conference are in the Top 25 with OCC at No. 2, Irvine Valley at No. 7, Golden West at No. 11, Riverside City at No. 15 and Fullerton at No. 20.

Irvine Valley, which has a record of 5-0 on the season, hosts Golden West, which is 5-2, to open Orange Empire Conference play Friday night at Irvine Valley at 6 p.m.
