But first-year coach Joe Supe got a chance to take a look at his team on Friday in a scrimmage at West LA.

And the 2012 Lasers didn't disappoint.

Irvine Valley ended up on top, 5-0, in the scrimmage with sophomore midfielder Ashly Romero and freshman forward Yasmin Hart each scoring two goals. The other goal came from freshman defender Desirae Santana off a cross from freshman midfielder Kelly Cox.

Freshman goalie Emma Connelly started in goal and helped contribute to the shutout.

"It was an excellent game," Supe said. "We dominated in both halves and could have scored even more. We hit the post three times.

"It was great to see the girls play with a lot of energy. We still have a lot to do and need to improve more. But we are getting there. I was impressed with the attitude and pleased with the results."
