With its win over Moorpark at home in the quarterfinals of the CCCAA State Championships on Tuesday night at home, the Lasers move on to the semifinals on Thursday at Long Beach City.
Irvine Valley, which is the defending state champion, will take on top-seeded Long Beach City in the second semifinal at 8 p.m.
Irvine Valley fell to Long Beach City in four sets in its second match of the season. Long Beach City won, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24, 25-13.
IVC hit just .193 as a team on the night. Sophomore middle blocker Mark Metrakos had 10 kills, freshman middle blocker Jeff Austin added eight kills, freshman defensive specialist Ryan Windisch finished with 15 digs and sophomore setter Kevin Fiske had 42 assists for the Lasers.
Irvine Valley, guided by head coach Ki Yi, has a record of 12-7 on the season. The Lasers finished second in the Pacific Coast Conference.
Long Beach City has a record of 15-2 overall and won the Western State Conference. Long Beach City's two losses this year were to Moorpark, which Irvine Valley just defeated.
In the first semifinal on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., Orange Coast, which won the Pacific Coast Conference, takes on Grossmont, which finished third in the Pacific Coast Conference. Grossmont defeated El Camino in five sets on Tuesday to advance.
The four teams that are in the state final 4 are the same four teams that were in the 2011 event - Irvine Valley, Long Beach City, Orange Coast and Grossmont.
Irvine Valley defeated Grossmont in five sets for the state title last season at Orange Coast.
