Irvine Valley's baseball team pulled out a 10-inning, come-from-behind 9-8 victory at Barstow in a nonconference game on Tuesday afternoon at Barstow.
The Lasers struggled on the mound early on, but their offense came through in the clutch.
Sophomore Bryan Castelli started on the mound for IVC and went 3 1/3 innings. He gave up six runs on five hits with one walk and three hit batters.
Irvine Valley trailed, 4-0, after three innings. The Lasers came back with three runs in the top of the
fourth inning to pull within one, but they found themselves down, 6-3, at the end of four innings.
Barstow scored another run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-3 lead.
Freshman Paul Lang relieved Castelli and stemmed the tide, allowing just one run in 3 2/3 innings.
Irvine Valley's offense came alive in the top of the sixth inning with three runs, including a two-run home run by freshman catcher Ryan Wagner to get within 7-6.
And the Lasers took their first lead of the game in the top of the eighth. Freshman first baseman Danny Jimenez hit an RBI double and then he scored on an error to give Irvine Valley a 8-7 lead.
Barstow tied the game in the bottom of the eighth off IVC closer Jason Euler with a walk, triple and single.
Tied, 8-8, Irvine Valley pushed across the deciding run in the top of the 10th inning. Freshman designated hitter Sam Kim doubled to lead ofrf the inning. He was sacrificed to third by Jimenez and then Kim scored on a sacrifice fly by Wagner.
Euler finished off his three-inning appearance by retiring the side in order in the 10th. He struck out the final Barstow batter to end the game. Euler got the win, going three innings and giving up one run on two hits with one walk, one hit batter and three strikeouts.
On offense, Wagner, Kim and Jimenez all had big days. Wagner went 1 for 3 with a home run, two sacrifices and three RBI, Kim was 3 for 4 with a double, one sacrifice and one RBI and Jimenez went 3 for 4 with two doubles, one sacrifice and two RBI.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 4-3 with the win.
The team plays at El Camino on Thursday at 2 p.m. and then hosts El Camino on Saturday at 12 p.m.
