Men's basketball team handles Cuyamaca

Kalob HatcherFor the second straight game, the Irvine Valley men's basketball team had no problem beating Cuyamaca.

The Lasers defeated Cuyamaca, 71-40, in the consolation final of the IVC Classic last week.

And then Irvine Valley traveled to El Cajon and defeated the Coyotos, 79-57, in a non-conference game last Wednesday.

IVC jumped out to a big lead in the first half, led 49-35, at halftime and never looked back.

Sophomore guard Kalob Hatcher, who is from the San Diego area, led IVC with 21 points on seven three pointers.

Hatcher made five of the three-pointers in the first half and combined with sophomore backcourt mate Ramon Mejia for 11 three-pointers in the first half.

Mejia finished with 18 points for IVC, making six first-half three-pointers. The other player in double figures for the Lasers was freshman forward Zach Mills, who added 10 points.

Freshman forward Michael Bolden contributed nine points. Ten players scored for IVC in the contest. Irvine Valley improved its record to 5-1 overall.

The Lasers play again next Thursday, Dec. 1 when they travel to the Monterey Peninsula Tournament.

IVC takes on one of the top teams from Northern California - Yuba - in the opening round. Irvine Valley has won the Monterey tourney the last two years.
