For the second straight game, the Irvine Valley men's basketball team had no problem beating Cuyamaca.
The Lasers defeated Cuyamaca, 71-40, in the consolation final of the IVC Classic last week.
And then Irvine Valley traveled to El Cajon and defeated the Coyotos, 79-57, in a non-conference game last Wednesday.
IVC jumped out to a big lead in the first half, led 49-35, at halftime and never looked back.
Sophomore guard
Kalob Hatcher
, who is from the San Diego area, led IVC with 21 points on seven three pointers.
Hatcher made five of the three-pointers in the first half and combined with sophomore backcourt mate
Ramon Mejia
for 11 three-pointers in the first half.
Mejia finished with 18 points for IVC, making six first-half three-pointers. The other player in double figures for the Lasers was freshman forward
Zach Mills
, who added 10 points.
Freshman forward Michael Bolden contributed nine points. Ten players scored for IVC in the contest. Irvine Valley improved its record to 5-1 overall.
The Lasers play again next Thursday, Dec. 1 when they travel to the Monterey Peninsula Tournament.
IVC takes on one of the top teams from Northern California - Yuba - in the opening round. Irvine Valley has won the Monterey tourney the last two years.
