2011-cyrstal.jpgThe Irvine Valley women's soccer team played tough, but couldn't come up with enough stops in a 3-0 loss to Cypress in an Orange Empire Conference.

With a defensive mindset in place, the Lasers stifled Cypress for the opening 20 minutes before the Chargers got on the board with a goal by Kayla Arenas.

IVC held Cypress to just one goal in the first half. Cypress added two more goals in the second half - from Jacqueline Lara in the 51st minute and Malori Patea in the 53rd minute - for the 3-0 victory.

IVC freshman goalie Amanda Rashtian finished with nine saves. The defeat dropped Irvine Valley's record to 2-12-3 overall and 1-10-2 in conference.

Cypress remained in third place in the conference standings, improving its record to 10-4-4 overall and 7-2-4 in conference.

IVC plays at Fullerton on Friday at 3 p.m. The Lasers defeated Fullerton, 3-1, the first time the two teams met this season.
