The super freshmen duo of Halle Young and Sally Kim led the Irvine Valley women's golf team to another Orange Empire Conference victory on Wednesday.
Young's 4 over par 78 and Kim's 5 over par 79 paced IVC to a victory over host Fullerton College at the par 74 Los Serranos North Course.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 19-0 in conference. And Kim played the last four holes holding an ice bag over a sore forearm between golf shots. She suffered the injury after being struck with an errant bunker shot.Freshmen Golfers
Kim bogeyed the next two holes while waiting for normal feeling to return. But she scored pars on the final two holes to post her 5 over score of 79.
"Sally is a tough competitor," Coach Ben Burnett said. "Golf competition rules allow an injured player 15 minutes to recover or withdraw due to illness or injury. Sally chose to complete with round with the use of a ziplocked bag of ice. I expect Sally to be ready to play when the team travels to Twin Oaks on Monday for a practice round on the So. Cal. Regionals course."
IVC's next conference match is Oct. 26 at Arroyo Trabuco against second-place Saddleback.
