The Irvine Valley men's soccer team started its season with a dominating 4-1 win at Moorpark in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lasers, coming off a 15-5-2 campaign last year, scored two goals in each half.
Freshman forward Tyler Ortega had both of Irvine Valley's goals in the second half. Ortega came on as a substitute at halftime and promptly scored two minutes into the second half on an assist from sophomore defender Josh Ruiz.
Ortega then took advantage of a miscue six minutes later by the Moorpark defense and scored an unassisted goal to give Irvine Valley a 4-0 lead.
Freshman midfielder Eduardo Oliva opened the scoring for the Lasers in the 20th minute off an assist by sophomore forward Brandon Mulhall.
And sophomore forward Fredy Razo gave Irvine Valley a 2-0 lead on a goal from an assist by Oliva.
Razo picked up right where he left off last year. As a freshman in 2010, Razo set the college record for goals (26) and points (58) in a season.
IVC sophomore goalie Alex Anderson gave up one goal in the second half and made four saves in the contest.
Irvine Valley out-shot Moorpark, 15-10, in the match.
The Lasers put out a starting unit of Anderson in goal, sophomore Shaun Murphy, freshman Luis Calderon, freshman Jony Chavez and sophomore Martin Licea on defense, sophomore Robert Hernandez, Oliva and freshman Juan Martinez in the midfield and Razo and Mulhall up front.
Freshman forward Alex Cannas, Ortega, freshmen defenders Guillermo Deleon, Nico Rojina and Jensen Lee, sophomore defender Josh Ruiz and freshmen midfielders Sota Maesawa, Caio De Azevedo, Josip Elez and Josh Popke all came in as substitutes.
Irvine Valley plays again on Friday in the Hartnell Tournament.
The Lasers take on host Hartnell at 11 a.m. Other teams in the tournament include Allan Hancock, Cerritos, American River, San Francisco, Cabrillo and Fresno.
Second-round games will be played on Saturday with the championship on Sunday at 2 p.m.
