The Irvine Valley men's soccer team will see its first action of the 2011 season with a scrimmage against Yavapai College from Prescott, Ariz. on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Irvine Valley.
Yavapai is one of the top junior college programs in the country. The Roughriders have won seven national titles and have an all-time record of 477-39-15.
The Lasers are coming off a solid 2010 season where they had a 15-5-2 overall record, finished second in the Orange Empire Conference and once again made the Southern California Regional playoffs.
IVC striker Fredy Razo broke the school record for goals in a season last year as a freshman with 26. He finished second in the state in goals and points (58) and ended up being named first team all-Orange Empire Conference as well as all-West Region second team.
Other expected top returners for the Lasers are midfielder Robert Hernandez and defenders Shaun Murphy, Josh Ruiz and Martin Licea.
IVC also gets back Brandon Mulhall, who was a starter and one of the top players on the 2009 team, but red-shirted last season.
Irvine Valley will play its first official match of the year on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at Moorpark at 3 p.m.
