Pair of former IVC baseball players in NAIA World Series

Former Irvine Valley baseball standouts Matt Ivanoff and Dean Persinger have helped Concordia University in Irvine reach the 2011 Avista-NAIA World Series.

Concordia begins play in the World Series later this week. Persinger was a 2008 All-American for Irvine Valley when helped the Lasers reach the Super Regionals for the second time in school history.

He is scheduled to start the opening game of the World Series for Concordia this Friday.

Persinger, a senior in his second year on the team, is second among Concordia starters with a 3.82 ERA and is also second on the team with three complete games in addition to a save. 

He has a 6-4 record on the season. And he was one of nine Concordia baseball players to earn his bachelor's degree recently.

Ivanoff, a senior outfielder who also starred on Irvine Valley's special 2008 squad, has a .335 batting average, a team-high 53 runs and 15 stolen bases for Concordia this season.
