Melchiorre tied for ninth after first round of state tourney

Irvine Valley freshman Kyle Melchiorre shot a 2 over par 74 and is tied for ninth with 10 other golfers after the morning round of the CCCAA Men's Golf State Championship at Kings Country Club in Hanford on Monday.

Andrew Perez of College of the Desert led the way with a 7 under par 65. Ryan Thomas of Chabot was second at 2 under par 70 and Austin Whitworth of Modesto was third at 1 under par 71.

Luke Ivazion was in fourth at even par 72.

Four other golfers were tied for fifth at 1 over par 73 in the 59-player field. 

Play continues with the final 18 holes this afternoon.
