Irvine Valley's baseball team sure had its problems with Fullerton this season. The Hornets won the season series over the Lasers, taking two of three games after winning, 5-3, in an Orange Empire Conference game at IVC on Tuesday. With a win, Irvine Valley could have moved into a tie for fourth place in conference. Both Saddleback and Cypress, who sat one game ahead of the Lasers in the standings, lost on Tuesday. IVC remained in sixth place. Fullerton scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 5-2 lead and then held on. Fullerton pitcher Christian Salinas beat the Lasers for the second time this season and improved his record to 3-5 overall. He went 7.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Gavin Stoecker earned his first save of the year, throwing the final 2.0 innings. He gave up one unearned run. Zach Luther, Nolan Almodavar and Garrett Donohoe each had two hits for the Hornets, who improved their record to 8-16 overall and 2-9 in conference. Almodavar, Blake McMartin, Donohoe and Tommy Endres each drove in runs for Fullerton. Irvine Valley reliever Bryan Castelli (0-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings. He had one strikeout. Sophomore Austin Alva started the game for Irvine Valley and went 5.0 innings. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts. IVC also made three costly errors in the game. Freshman right fielder Brian Glynn was 2 for 4 with two RBI to lead the Lasers on offense. But IVC had just four hits on the afternoon. Irvine Valley's record fell to 13-11 overall and 4-7 in conference. The Lasers play at Riverside on Thursday and host the Tigers on Friday. Box Score
