Irvine Valley sophomore men's basketball player Joe Eberhard is headed to Sacramento State.
The forward recently committed the the Big Sky Conference school, according to IVC Coach Jerry Hernandez. Eberhard was a two-year starter for the Lasers and helped Irvine Valley to two of the best seasons in program history.
Irvine Valley made the Elite Eight of the playoffs each year and reached the State Tournament for the first time in school history during the 2009-10 campaign.
Over the two years, Irvine Valley had a record of 49-13. Eberhard was named first team all-Orange Empire Conference in 2010-11 after ranking fifth in the conference in rebounding, eighth in assists and ninth in scoring.
He averaged 11.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 steals on the season. Started and played in 30 of the team's 31 games. Eberhard scored in double figures in 17 game this past season and had three double-doubles (points and rebounds).
One of his best games was a 20-points, 15-rebound and seven-assist performance in a win over Santa Monica in Irvine Valley's own tournament. He scored a season-high 26 points two times (against Santa Rosa and Mt. SAC). He made 10 of 11 field goals in route to the 26 points in IVC’s win over Mt. SAC in the Saddleback tournament.
For his career at IVC, Eberhard averaged 10.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Eberhard came to Irvine Valley after sitting red-shirting a season at UC Irvine. He was a star high school player at Corona del Mar, being named all-league and all-CIF.
He averaged 15.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists as a senior for the Sea Kings, helping lead them to a Pacific Coast League title. And as a junior, Eberhard helped CdM to a league title and then a CIF championship. Sacramento State finished this past season with a record of 7-21 overall and 4-12 in the Big Sky.
But among the team's 21 losses, four came in overtime and five more were by six points or less. To read even more about Eberhard's signing click here
