The Irvine Valley men's golf team officially began its season on Monday at the two-day Tee Off Classic, which featured five Orange Empire Conference squads and three teams from outside the conference.
Sophomore Dave Durbeniuk and freshman Kyle Melchiorre paced the Lasers with scores of 1 under par at Los Serranos in Chino Hills.
Sophomore Steve Grove fired a 3 over par for the Lasers. Orange Coast held the first day lead with IVC and Saddleback tied for second. Cypress and Santiago Canyon were both close behind.
The tournament continues on Wednesday and coach Ben Burnett said he will substitute his players with the three highest scores with three alternates "to give all a chance to show a score under competitive conditions."
