The Irvine Valley men's basketball team won three straight games to capture the Monterey Bay Classic for the second straight season this past weekend.
The Lasers defeated Santa Rosa, 78-70, on Thursday, Hartnell, 76-63, on Friday, and then Sierra, 77-60, in the final on Saturday.
The three victories also gave IVC a five-game win streak overall. IVC freshman guard Kalob Hatcher was named the tournament's most valuable player and sophomore forwards Sean Donovan and Joe Eberhard were named to the all-tournament team.
Donovan and sophomore Travis Fulton combined for nine of IVC's 11 three-pointers made in the championship game win over Sierra (Donovan hit six of six three-pointers and finished with 24 points).
Fulton added 21 points and sophomore guard Marcus Walters had 11 points. IVC shot 11 for 24 as a team from three-point range.
"We just controlled the game from the start," said IVC Coach Jerry Hernandez, who also picked up his 300th victory at Irvine Valley with the win over Hartnell on Saturday. "We really shot the ball well."
IVC plays again Wednesday in the Rio Hondo Tournament in Whittier. The Lasers open against Glendale at 7 p.m.
