The Irvine Valley men's soccer team is back in the Southern California Regional Playoffs and the Lasers host East Los Angeles in the first round on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Irvine Valley is seeded seventh and East LA is seeded 10th.
The last time Irvine Valley and East LA met was in the first round of the 2007 So. Cal. Regional playoffs.
Irvine Valley, playing at home, defeated East Los Angels, 1-0, on a goal by Christian Correa-Henschke off an assist by Mark Shadrack.
This season, East Los Angeles finished third in the tough South Coast Conference behind top-seeded Mt. SAC and Cerritos.
The Huskies have a record of 9-6-5 overall and were 7-3-4 in conference. East LA has out-scored opponents, 40-29, this year.
Irvine Valley was a close second in the Orange Empire Conference, finishing just two points behind Santa Ana. Irvine Valley's record is 14-4-2 and the team was 10-3-1 in conference.
IVC has out-scored opponents, 53-31, this season.
Irvine Valley freshman forward Fredy Razo has broken the school record for goals in a season with 25. His 56 points (25 goals and 6 assists) ranked second in the state at the end of the regular season.
Today's winner travels to No. 2 Santa Ana next Tuesday for the second round.
