gaia-symphony.jpgThe Irvine Valley College Japanese program and Japan Club will be hosting a benefit film screening of “Gaia Symphony, No. 6” on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. in the IVC Performing Arts Center. Parking for this event is free. The suggested ticket price is $10 or more per person. All proceeds will benefit relief efforts in Japan in the aftermath of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

"Gaia Symphony," a documentary series from Japanese filmmaker Jin Tatsumura, celebrates the harmony between humans and nature. The sixth episode, “The Universe Resonates with the Sound of the Void,” features biologist Roger Payne, famous for his discovery of whale song, and musicians Ravi Shankar and Kelly Yost, among others.

The film, with English subtitles, is about two hours. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m., with light refreshments and LoveForJapan goods sold prior to the viewing. Tickets for two or more are available for sale prior to the event. Net proceeds go toward the UNICEF/Japan Disaster Fund.
