2/9/2011  Lasers lose another close one, fall to Cerritos
The Irvine Valley men's tennis team lost another close match Tuesday afternoon, falling to Cerritos, 5-4, in a non-conference contest at Irvine Valley.
The Lasers fell to Mt. SAC, 5-4, in their opener last week. The Lasers won two matches each in singles and doubles.
In singles, Chris Naamani ran his record to 2-0 on the year with a come from behind 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, win at  the No. 3 singles position. Michael Sharp picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles for the Lasers.
In doubles, Irvine Valley's No. 2 team of Justin Thompson and Sharp won, 9-8 (5), and the No. 3 squad of Charles Huang and Ryan Sleiman came out on top, 8-4.
Irvine Valley will try and pick up its first win of the season on Thursday when it travels to El Camino for a non-conference match-up.
 
2/4/2011 Men's tennis team edged by Mt. SAC in opener
The Irvine Valley men's tennis team opened the 2011 season with a tough 5-4 non-conference loss at Mt. San Antonio in Walnut on Thursday afternoon.
The two squads split the six singles contests. Mt. SAC won two of three in doubles. IVC winners in singles were Justin Thompson at the No. 1 position (6-0, 6-4), Chris Naamani at No. 3 (6-4, 6-2) and Michael Zampiglia at No. 6 (2-6, 7-5, 10-5).
The Lasers got a win at No. 2 doubles from the team of Tyler Troung and Naamani (6-1, 6-3).
Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday at Cerritos.
 
Men's tennis team fares well at off-season Cypress tourney
The Irvine Valley men's tennis team recently competed in the out of season Cypress College Charger Invitational and had solid results.
IVC got singles wins from Justin Thompson, Tyler Troung, Michael Sharp and Ryan Sleiman. Thompson then suffered a tough third set tie-break loss to Alex Sandri of College of the Desert.
Other IVC players competing included Chris Naamani, Dante Mora, Azamat Parchiev and Michael Zampiglia (also lost in a third set tie-break) and Pierre Tran. 
In doubles, the team of Naamani and Sharp defeated a team from Mt. San Jacinto before falling 8-4 to a duo from Cypress. 
Thompson and Troung beat teams from Cerritos and Cypress to reach the quarterfinals where they had to withdraw due to injury. 
Sleiman and Mora defeated a Long Beach City team before falling to the No. 2 seeds from Cypress.
