· PAST EVENTS:
· On September 21 we have a tour of the offices of Ells Certified Public Accountants & Business Advisors. You can find out more about them at http://www.ellscpas.com/ . That is Wednesday at 4:30PM in their offices. Come to the next Accounting Society meeting, September 13th in A307A, to sign up for this tour.
· October 4th there will be a panel discussion with representatives from the three major career alternatives in accounting, i.e., public accounting, private industry and government. They will describe the career path and take questions from students. This might help you focus on a career choice that is right for you.
· October 11 or 18 we will have someone from the Institute of Internal Auditors speak about the CIA certification (Certified Internal Auditor) and careers in internal audit. This career path usually involves significant travel since, generally, only large companies have an internal audit department and their function is to audit all significant locations each year. Because of the travel, there is less competition for some of these jobs. Travel is something you can do more easily when you are young and starting out. Also, internal audit can provide audit experience toward CPA certification also. Learn more about the CIA at http://www.theiia.org/certification/ and have your questions ready.
· October 13th the Business Leaders Society will host a transfer information event. This has been highly successful in the past and featured representatives from many colleges of interest to our business transfer students.
· October 25th Michael Rodriguez, Vice President and CFO of Clarient, Inc., a General Electric Company, will speak about the events leading up to the sale of the company he worked for to a publicly held company and the first implementation of the Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
· On September 6 Neal West, the president of the local chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants, came to our meeting to speak about the CMA designation (Certified Management Accountant). Approximately 30 students came to hear the talk and there were many questions afterward.

People going through the program will receive first a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and then a Master’s Degree in Accounting. Previous to this program, CSUF Accounting Majors generally received a Business Administration Degree with an Emphasis in Accounting.
